For years now I’ve been wanting to get back into roleplaying games (and playing my tactical war games – but that’s another topic altogether). The primary issue has always been time… and now that I have a 3 year old daughter my time is even more restricted than it ever was before.

As a result, I recently began looking at online solutions. I had tried to begin a game back in ’99 using mIRC as the contact / chat client with a dice bot, and that worked… ok… but the game petered out after only a couple sessions. After that I didn’t pay much attention to online solutions for years. I briefly looked at a couple systems, like OpenRPG but at the time they were so clunky and difficult to simply jump into that I ignored them entirely.

However, recently the bug has been biting me more than ever before (as indicated in a previous post) and I encountered Fantasy Grounds. Out of all the Virtual Table Top programs I researched (or, “VTT’s” for short), it seemed to have the most potential of them all, so purchased a copy. I’ve been working on learning the system ever since – and am planning on setting up and starting a campaign using the product in the near future.
